Downton Abbey

Truth be told, my husband and I spent most of our weekend watching season one of the fabulous Masterpiece Classic Series, Downton Abbey. It was at his request that we watch the first episode on Netflix, and we were majorly hooked from there on out. We are now officially caught up and enjoyed season 2, episode 2 last night. I'm enjoying the drama, the laughs, and the characters so much, but there is definitely something to be said for the elegance of the Edwardian age, which is so handsomely portrayed in each scene. I suppose it inspired my weekend in other ways, too. I felt the need to wear my hair up and don some elegant shoes.
Have you watched yet?

I found this passive-aggressive bookplate in an antique book (1909) in my favorite shop on Saturday. I love it.

Sunday shoes . . .

Watched it last year on Masterpiece, and loving this season, too. I wish my husband would watch it with me!

I'm on episode 6 right now and I'm loving it! I bet it was such an interesting time to live--when the world was changing so much. I love the clothes and the fancy manners. It makes me want to be more elegant.

The very first episode, that opens with the servants working, was shocking to me. I know that they had servants (maybe they still do?) but the amount of work that happened while the upper class slept was a little shocking to see first-hand like that.

i've yet to start but all in due time. i actually just raid a TIME article on the series and the real castle they film the series in -- most fascinating fat: the crew is on location for 13 hours a day and all their effort during that long time only supplies 6 minutes of finished film time. amazing. who says that skilled actors/film makers don't earn their pay?! love the shoes.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! All of Season 2 is available online (it already aired in England) and it's all I can do to not watch the whole thing. I'm exercising my self-control. :) My heart pines for Mary's purple striped dress! I'm on a mission to find a look-alike for my Easter dress. Keep your eyes peeled and let me know if you see anything...

How funny-- I started and finished season 1 during this long weekend too! I have an unhealthy obsession, I think. ;) I love to hate Thomas and root for Mr. Bates. I think it's so pretty to watch. It's a good guilty pleasure!

I started and nearly finished this weekend! I have one more episode to go! I have to say that while I typically enjoy period dramas... I often feel that the jane austen type stories are overdone. But this show has proved me completely wrong! IT is so interesting, and I love the clothes! I have a snow day today and have episode 8 on my list of things to watch!
