Rose Garden

Each Monday afternoon, I travel into Fort Worth to take my son to a preschool program put on by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. He loves it and I get two hours to fill in a city with which I'm still pretty unfamiliar.

The first two weeks, I puttered around antique malls and the Ridglea district, last week I got my car serviced, and yesterday, I wandered around the Rose Garden at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, the oldest botanic gardens in Texas. Wow, it was lovely. A nice cloudy day, gravel pathways, and a light smattering of rain on my face; if I closed my eyes, I could almost have been in England.

a neat old pecan tree

Never thought I'd see such a vista in Fort Worth, Texas!

Are you familiar with Fort Worth? Any ideas for me for next Monday?

LOVE the botanical gardens. My favorite Christmas card pictures have been taken there.

The University Shops area is nice. There's a cute little shop called Simple Things. Anthro should be there, soon.

On Alan and College, there is a really cool store that carries old accessories rescued from home demolitions. It is called the Old Home Supply. It is awesome! You will love it.

I found your blog through Shanna and Branson's blog, I went to High School with Shanna:) I live in Dallas and the only thing I have done if Ft. Worth is the Zoo which I don't think you would want to do while your little one is in pre-school but it is such a FUN zoo to see:)

I would go to the shops at University. Makinley's Bakery is on my must visit list. The strawberry cupcakes are devine.

Also in the area, there are some fun shops at Montgomery and Vickery. The Eclairs at the Swiss Bakery are the best!

I love my hometown! I would highly recommend:

The duck pond in Trinity Park
Record Town on University for cool, old vinyl
Amon Carter Museum- my fave of the three biggies
A tour of Thistle Hill

Hungry?
Dutch's on University- awesome burgers on delicious brioche rolls
Chadra's on Park Place- I recommend the falafel
Paciugo's in Central Market on Hulen- delicious gelato

Lots more ideas here.

Old Home Supply is a must. Also, Simple Things in the University Park shopping center that some other people have recommended. You will just looove it!!! Everything is a bit pricey but it is a great place to go and get design ideas! Also, on saturdays and sundays, in the Will Rogers cattle barn 1, there is a great flea market! Check it out if you are ever there on the weekend :)
